A true native of Mt. Desert Island, Jean's family settled on Bartlett's Island, Maine, in the 1700s. Coming from a long line of strong women, Jean's ancestors have inspired her to be the artist and person she is today. As an Island person, "what one needed, one created." Her earliest memory of painting was leaving a toothpaste picture, each morning, on the mirror, for her mother. From there she advanced to grammar school classes with Mr. Wood. Mr. Wood gave her the knowledge that her talent was important. In high school she painted with Mrs. Law, who taught her to take care of her work and that it was important. After having a 20 year break from raising her three children, Jean is back to her dream of painting everyday, and expressing her feelings for colors, lines light and nature.
